AP radiograph of the femur of the same patient demonstrates characteristic punch-out lytic lesions throughout the diaphyseal bone of the femur with minimal, if any, response in the surrounding bone. He was treated with systemic chemotherapy to destroy the tumor cells and Aredia, a biphosphonate drug used to inhibit osteoclastic activity and therefore prevent further progressive lytic destruction of bone and bring the serum calcium level back to normal.
