IMAGE DESCRIPTION:
AP radiograph of a 4-year-old boy with symptoms of pain in the knee area shows lytic permeation throughout the distal diaphyseal-metaphyseal portion of the femur, up to the growth plate with evidence of periosteal lifting and reactive new bone formation, quite suggestive of a high-grade round cell sarcoma such as Ewing's sarcoma, metastatic neuroblastoma or, perhaps, an aggressive eosinophilic granuloma, or even bacterial osteomyelitis.
