IMAGE DESCRIPTION:
Cut section through the resected tumor shows a mixture of what appears to be benign lipoma fatty tissue with its characteristic yellow appearance but at the periphery there is a tannish-pink discolored lobulated tumor tissue that histologically was diagnostic of a myxoid liposarcoma. However, the yellow tissue showed the histologic appearance of a benign lipoma. This case demonstrates how a small needle biopsy specimen could lead to a sampling error problem.
