IMAGE DESCRIPTION:
Coronal T1-weighted image of the pelvis of a 55-year-old male shows a discrete, low signal abnormality arising from the sciatic nerve, just posterior to the hip joint, that created symptoms of numbness down the distribution of the leg when the patient would sit on a hard chair. This lesion measures about 4 cm in diameter. Because it is round and associated with the sciatic nerve, the most likely diagnosis would be a benign neurilemoma.
