The autopsy specimen of the spine was cut with a band saw to give a sagittal impression of the entire axial skeleton of this patient who died of a malignant schwannoma arising from neurofibromatosis. The malignant schwannoma is seen in the mid-dorsal spine area where there is a sharp kyphotic defect frequently seen in patients with neurofibromatosis.
