A 22-year-old football player had a significant injury to his quadriceps muscle two months prior to this lateral radiograph that shows calcification within the muscle belly of the quadriceps with a streaking pattern running along the fascial planes of the muscle compartments. There is a solitary nodule at the proximal area with peripheral ossification and central lysis strongly suggesting the diagnosis of traumatic myositis ossificans as opposed to a ossifying sarcoma. To be on the safe side, a surgical biopsy was performed.
