IMAGE DESCRIPTION:
This was an early case before the advent of MRI technology, so the patient was studied with a contrast injection into the hip joint that shows small pockets of synovial space where the dye can contrast on this image. Of significance is the large filling defect produced by the hypertrophic synovium that prevents the hip joint from dilating in normal fashion.
