IMAGE DESCRIPTION:
Low power photomicrograph shows granulation tissue infiltrated by cholesterol clefts, a characteristic finding in Hand-Schüller-Christian disease. Erdheim-Chester disease has the same clinical picture but occurs in the fifth or sixth decade of life. It is a xantho-granulomatous histiocytosis seen in older patients and has a radiographic picture similar to that of Hand-Schüller-Christian disease.
