The patient was taken to the operating room and the osteochondroma was resected. This photomicrograph of the surgical specimen shows that most of the lesion represents osteoporotic cancellous bone (left) with a small cap of heavily calcified cartilage (right). Because of the low cartilage volume, the chance of this lesion converting to a chondrosarcoma is extremely low.
