Following resection, the specimen was debulked of the chondrosarcoma and the remaining bone was placed in the autoclave for five minutes at 130° centigrade. This procedure completely kills the tumor, leaving behind a bony scaffolding similar to an allograft. It is shown here ready to reimplant back into the patient as a scaffolding on which a total hip reconstruction will be carried out. Notice the bony defects seen in the supraacetabular area where the tumor had broken through the cortex.
