IMAGE DESCRIPTION:
A 60-year-old male presented with symptoms of pain in the hip area of four months duration. AP radiograph of the proximal femur demonstrates an aggressive lytic destructive lesion located in the femoral diaphysis just below the lesser trochanter. There is evidence of permeative lytic changes in the surrounding cortex suggesting a high-grade sarcoma or metastatic disease. Biopsy proved this to be a high-grade hemangiosarcoma. He was treated with systemic adjuvant chemotherapy and two months later was taken to the operating room and a wide segmental resection of the femoral lesion was carried out with reconstruction using a large bone allograft and intramedullary nail.
