Sagittal T1-weighted MRI shows evidence of a low signal abnormality involving the lateral tibial plateau with a streaking low signal pattern coming off the articular surface of the lateral plateau and streaming down into the metaphysis. This is characteristic of streaming edema seen in patients with stress fractures of the lateral tibial plateau. The patient was biopsied to rule out lymphoma, but this was not found. The patient was treated with rest and the pain resolved spontaneously as the stress fracture healed.
