IMAGE DESCRIPTION:
Lateral radiograph of the lumbar spine at a later date showing progressive codfish collapse of the vertebra at multiple levels, similar to what we see in patients with myeloma. On a biopsy specimen, the pathologist found large numbers of plasma cells in the bone marrow and the collagen fibers within the bone osteoid were not birefringent when viewed with a polarized microscope, which is characteristic of fibrogenesis imperfecta ossium.
