Because of the paraplegia the patient was taken to the operating room and a posterior laminectomy approach was made to the area. The spinal canal was totally decompressed of metastatic tumor tissue and this photograph shows the appearance after instrumentation of the spine posteriorly with Harrington rods. Cancellous autograft taken from the iliac crest was packed into the posterior elements lateral to the Harrington rods. Note the nicely decompressed dural cuff between the two Harrington rods in the midportion of the photograph.
