IMAGE DESCRIPTION:
AP radiograph of the pelvis of a 45-year-old female who had a prior history of breast cancer. This film was obtained because of trauma to the hip area and, as an incidental finding, it was noted that she had multiple blastic lesions studded throughout the pelvis on both sides. Her physicians were concerned that this might be metastatic breast carcinoma. However, a biopsy proved that they were simply bone islands. A bone scan showed minimal uptake in the area of these punctate focal lesions and there was no evidence of a lytic component in the surrounding bone to suggest metastatic tumor.
