IMAGE DESCRIPTION:
The surgeon decided to proceed with a bipolar prosthetic replacement of the upper end of the femur. At the time of surgery, he curetted the area of the supposed metastatic lesion and here is the photomicrograph from that specimen that shows the typical features of a healing stress fracture with reactive osteoid and cartilage formation. There is no metastatic tumor seen.
