Axial T1-weighted MRI shows a very large high signal density in a benign lipoma lying just beneath the gluteus maximus muscle. It is bulging through the sciatic notch into the retroperitoneal area of the pelvis. It was proven on biopsy to be a benign intramuscular lipoma.
