Appearance of the calf following completion of the surgical debridement and closure of the wound. This procedure left the patient with essentially no innervation to the lower extremity. His only mode of function was his quadriceps muscle which was not involved. Initially he had to wear a brace at the ankle to stabilize the ankle but after six months he discarded it and was able to walk without external support. He was quite pleased with the outcome five years later.
